About Ardmore | Gourmet Hideout | Picture Gallery | Historical Ardmore
Ardmore is a small seaside, and very historical village. It is quiet and sleepy for most of the year… an ideal place to relax and unwind.
St Declan founded Irelands earliest Christian settlement in Ardmore in 416AD, before the arrival of St Patrick. The 12th century Round Tower is 29meters high and is the best example of an Irish Round Tower. The carvings on the west gable of the Cathedral are special to Ardmore. They depict biblical scenes as well as scenes from the early christianisation of Ardmore. Nearby is St Declan's grave located in the Beannacain (a small oratory). Also nearby are two ogham stones.
St Declan's Stone and St Declan's Well (Hermitage) are located very close to Ardmore Pottery. All are on the Cliff Walk path which brings you on a tour of the cliffs and main sites of Ardmore… distance of 4 km and it takes about one hour.
The Round Tower overlooks a beautiful bay with many sandy beaches, and the picturesque little fishing village of Ardmore. Ardmore is an ideal family resort. It won the overall National Tidy Towns award in 1992.
Ardmore is an ideal walking centre and base, be it the long distance 90 km St Declan's Way to Cashel or the shorter Cliff Walk or Beach Walks.
Ardmore is 2 hours drive from Rosslare and one hours drive from Cork and Waterford City.
